The Dark Valley (まっくら谷, Makkura tani) is the large main region of the Onii Kingdom. After beating the Onii Man, King Corobo goes through the Dark Valley to fight the Onii King, where he is attacked by many Oniis throwing rocks and pots from atop the Valley's walls.

The Dark Valley refers generally to the entirety of the southern mountainous areas still owned by the Onii Kingdom after Corobo defeats the Onii Man. After defeating Onii King and securing the area, this whole region gets renamed to the "Dark Valley Nature Reserve" and is inhabited by wild animals like Rodeo Cows and Black Sheep. Initially, this area is shrouded in darkness, hence its name, but it becomes sunnier after Corobo claims the area.

While the area is a region of the Onii Kingdom in itself, it has several subregions of its own due to its size.

Geography[]

Corobo first enters the Dark Valley via the Former Onii Grounds, where it is blocked off by a large fallen tree that needs a Buff Lumberjack to clear. Beyond the fallen tree is the Thrown Pot Mound, an open field with a sign introducing Corobo to the area, as well as the first of many Onii UMA throwing rocks and pots to make an appearance. At this stage, Corobo is only able to head south and follow the main path through the Valley. Through this path are many fallen trees, rocks, pots containing arrows, and different Oniis. At the very end he finds the Onii King's arena, later named the Valley of Memories, where Corobo defeats the king in battle. After the area is conquered, this part of the Valley connects to Farmland and Sunflower Plains, allowing Corobo to access the latter area with ease.

Upon returning, Corobo is able to construct a set of stone stairs at the Thrown Pot Mound that scale the inner clifftop, allowing him to snag some treasure and an Art Piece. Additionally, a Ripped Miner can be used to open up a secret passage to the east of the Mound, which allows access to the hinterland behind the Valley. The passage goes south across a small cliff edge to a plateau with many Black Sheep, which contains a peninsula with the Parasol weapon. On the other side of this plateau is another long road following the cliff edge, which eventually leads to a small bay called the Haunted Zone 1, a Wonder Spot. The plateau also has a small set of stairs that allows Corobo to explore the expansive outer clifftop of the Valley, where three Art Pieces and a Savvy Merchant purse can be found, as well as an alternative entrance to the Sunflower Plains by jumping off a cliffside to the very west.

Music[]

The music for Dark Valley is shared with Skull Plains. It is the only main piece of music in Little King's Story for which the classical origin has not been identified. The ongoing search for its origin has become one of the game's most famous mysteries, known simply as DVSP.
