Okamemask
Life 60
Location Skull Plains
UMA Book Description Wears a cute mask. Adorable, but deadly.

The Okamemask (オカメデス, Okamedesu) is a rare ghost-like UMA that occasionally appears at Skull Plains Lake. It resembles the Grim Reaper, wears a red cloak and traditional okame mask (from which its name is derived from), glows with a purple aura, and wields a double-sided scythe.

Much like its cousin the Peakadeath, the Okamemask is one of few UMA able to fly. Its high speed makes it hard to avoid, and it can sometimes fly right over the hills surrounding the Skull Plains Lake to attack Corobo. It float up and down in place, making the its insta-kill attacks unpredictable. It can be damaged by Animal Hunter arrows, and Soldiers can manage to cling-on when it flies closer to the ground. It has slightly more HP than the Peakadeath.

Attacks[]

Since this UMA flies upwards and downwards, its hitboxes will also move around during attacks.

Attack Effect Description
Scythe hack Melee, Instant-kill Stabs scythe in front
Scythe spin Melee, Instant-kill Slowly spins scythe around, lasts some time

Etymology[]

The name of the Okamemask is simply a reference to an okame mask, the traditional Japanese mask which the UMA wears.

Okamedesu

Okame death
French Masque de mort Death Mask
Italian Spiritella Lil Spirit (feminine)
German Sensenweib Mrs. Reaper (lit. Scythe-woman)
Spanish Esmascarada Masked Woman

The Italian name uses the word spirito, meaning "spirit", with the female suffix -ello that denotes smallness. The gender of the suffix is the only aspect of its name that distinguishes it from the Italian name for the Peakadeath, Spiritello.

The German name is a pun on Sensenmann, which means "reaper" but literally translates as "scythe-man". The mann is swapped out for the word for "woman" weib. Furthermore, Sensenmann is the name for Peakadeath in German.

The Spanish name is the same adjective as the one used for Peakadeath, but in feminine form.

Trivia[]

  • The Peakadeath and Okamemask only spawn on occasion in one location in the game and do not appear in any Generated Quests. This makes them some of the easiest UMA to miss, often making them players' penultimate UMA to encounter for the UMA Book quest.
